Apple Cider Vinegar Tea Recipe

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a staple in our home. I drink it in water, and use it in our chicken’s water, too. When cold season hits, this apple cider vinegar tea takes it to the next level, combining ACV with other healthy ingredients for extra kick.
From clearing congestion to improving your skin, this detox tea helps your body to clear out crud. If I’m in a hurry, I’ll use only the vinegar and lemon, but when I need more “oomph”, I use all the ingredients.
Apple Cider Vinegar Tea Ingredients
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (with the “mother”)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
- 1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- dash of cayenne pepper
Note: The cinnamon and cayenne like to settle to the bottom of the glass, so I stir before I sip to keep them blended. You can use homemade apple scrap vinegar, if you have some on hand.
Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar Tea
- Congestion Clearing:
- Vinegar contains potassium, which thins mucus. It also contains polyphenols, which can help reduce cold symptoms.
- Sore Throat Remedy:
- Apple Cider Vinegar tea combines several of the top home treatments for sore throats in one drink – warm water, herbs, lemon, ACV, and honey.
- Digestive Aid:
- Apple cider vinegar is a well known digestive tonic. It can help alleviate indigestion, bloating, and heartburn by promoting the production of stomach acid.
- Weight Management:
- Studies suggest that ACV may contribute to weight loss by increasing feelings of fullness and reducing overall calorie intake. Including it in your daily routine through tea is a tasty way to support your weight management goals.
- Blood Sugar Regulation:
- Some research indicates that apple cider vinegar may help improve insulin sensitivity. This may be helpful to stabilize blood sugar levels.
- Detoxification:
- ACV contains acetic acid, which may improve liver function. A warm cup of apple cider vinegar tea can be a soothing addition to your detox routine.
- Boosted Immunity:
- The acid in ACV may help kill harmful bacteria and viruses. Lemon juice adds vitamin C, and cayenne and cinnamon are also anti-microbial.
- Improved Skin Health:
- Apple cider vinegar has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that may help improve skin conditions. Drinking the tea may contribute to a clearer complexion and help with conditions like acne.
Apple Cider Vinegar Tea (Detox Tea Recipe)
This simple detox tea can help settle your stomach and improve weight management.
- Prep Time: 2 minutes
- Cook Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 7 minutes
- Yield: 1 cup 1x
- Category: Beverage
Ingredients
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (with the “mother”)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
- 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- dash of cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Boil one cup of water. You can use a kettle or heat the water on the stovetop.
- Pour the hot water into a mug and add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. If desired, sweeten your tea with one to two teaspoons of honey or maple syrup.
- For an extra flavor boost, sprinkle in half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Cinnamon mellows out the taste and comes with its own set of health benefits.
- Use a spoon to mix the ingredients thoroughly. Ensure that the apple cider vinegar is well incorporated into the tea.
- Sip on your apple cider vinegar tea while it’s still warm. Keep your spoon handy if you use cinnamon and cayenne, as they like to settle to the bottom of the glass. Stir before you sip to avoid a “cinnamon surprise” at the bottom.
Frequently Asked Questions
ACV tea has a tangy and slightly sour taste from the apple cider vinegar. I highly recommend a bit of honey or maple syrup to compliment the tartness. The cinnamon and cayenne add another layer of flavor, and other health benefits.
Drinking apple cider vinegar tea in moderation is generally safe for most people. Because of the acidity of the vinegar, it’s best to drink it over a short time, rather than sipping on it all day. Check with your healthcare provider if you are on medications.
I recommend raw, organic apple cider vinegar with the “mother”, if available. The “mother” is a colony of beneficial bacteria that gives the vinegar its cloudy appearance. Apples are one of the most sprayed crops, so choosing organic is best to avoid toxins.
Apple cider vinegar is generally safe and beneficial. Some people may experience side effects such as digestive issues, throat irritation, or low potassium levels.
Start with small amounts, and see how your body reacts. Discontinue use if you experience any adverse effects.
You can drink it on an empty stomach, but it’s better to drink it with food or after a meal. This minimizes the risk of stomach upset. If you’re unsure how your body will react, start by having it with food.
