Could the recipes in your book be used in a bread machine?
Some of them, yes, but not all of them.
I don’t find on this page any reference to the use of flour that is ground fresh from wheat (or other grain) berries. Do the recipes (quantities, directions, etc.) accommodate the use of flour like this and/or does the book include tips on any necessary adjustments when the flour is ground right before baking?
I’ve used fresh ground flour for most of the recipes. They are tough to flop completely. The texture changes a bit, and you may need to add a little more or a little less flour depending on your wheat berries, but that’s true with pre-ground flour as well. Changes in humidity, different ingredient brands – all add in variables. I do include a section of general troubleshooting tips that address some of the most common problems people run into while baking yeast breads.
Wonderful book. I have tried sourdough, potato bread, french bread, pumpernickel rye, zucchini, biscuits, and popovers. All the recipes came out perfectly. This has been my go to bread book for over a year now. Thanks so much!
Thank you for taking time to leave a comment, and I’m glad it’s worked well for you.
Do ya’ll have a 1-800-number to place orders for your books?
Sorry, Sheri. We only have the one physical product at this time that we sell directly, and all the payments process through Paypal. We can accept payment via US mail, if someone is uncomfortable with online shopping.

I just received my ” Never Buy Bread Again” cookbook and I’m excited to get started! But before I do, I want to point out a couple things. First, I love the spiral binding, it’ll make reading the recipes so much easier. Second, I appreciate the larger print, my old eyes don’t see as well as they used to. And third, the photos are beautiful!
I’m very pleased with the cookbook and I look forward to trying the recipes!
Thank you, Charlotte. Glad the book arrived safely and that it’s easy to use.
Just purchased your bread book to save for my daughter for Christmas! I know, I know! I’ll probably give it to her early!! I didn’t realize that I also would receive a download version and I am so happy – Thank you very much.
My husband’s grandmother was an accomplished baker. She made kolache all the time and they were so good. I never made them before but now I will. In fact just the other day I was thinking about searching out a recipe for them. Again, thank you.
Something that my mother made on baking day was what she called pinwheels – they were strips of bread dough, rolled flat and sprinkled with a little cinnamon and sugar, then rolled up into a spiral. Once baked, we glazed them with a basic powdered sugar and cream and sprinkled them with finely chopped walnuts. Oh my, they were good. She also made what she called “Dough Gobs” . She pinched off gobs of dough and deep fried them. We rolled them in sugar or powdered sugar and left some plain. The plain ones we bit off a tiny bite and filled them with honey or jam.
I again, thank you for the recipes and I will get started baking as soon as I am able to find bread flour!!
I think I’d get along well with your family. 🙂
If you can’t get bread flour, you can use all purposes flour. The dough will be softer and stickier, but still works. All purpose flour is good for kolache, too.
Actually, I was thinking that since my mother never used bread flour and I never have, I won’t even bother – I’ll just use what I have always used! Thanks.
I got my copy in the mail yesterday. Just had a few minutes to look at it today, it made me hungry! Looking forward to trying out some recipes.
Thank you for your order, Catherine. Happy baking!
I love the blog and I’d love to get a bread book 🙂
But I do think that postage to Germany is too high.
Sadly so.
All the best
I understand.
Just read this and although it has been some time since it was posted, thought you still might be interested in a reply.
If you can’t afford to have a hard copy shipped, you might consider buying the PDF format and then printing it out. That way you would avoid all the shipping and customs charge.
Just a thought.
How much for your Canadian followers?
Because of the customs rules and exchange rates, I’m referring Canadian readers to order through Amazon.com.
Hey Laurie, Just ordered a copy of your book. When it gets here, I am going to take it to our local preparedness and homesteading store to show them. Don’t know if you have any interest in some type of wholesale price to merchants, but if you do, let me know, and I will see if they would like to carry your book. They have a great book selection on all subjects related to prepping and homesteading, and put on a three day event each year called Heritage Life Skills, where they also sell a lot of books.
Hi Leslie.
I just saw your order come in and will get that in the mail today. I’m more than happy offer wholesale pricing for quantities of 10 books or more – $9.95 each plus bulk rate shipping.
K
Do you have wholesale pricing for resale?
I haven’t sold wholesale, but would discuss it.
I would like to purchase a small quantity of your Never Buy Bread Again for my small store in Oregon.
I just got my cookbook today and so far so great. Have you used flour from To Your Health Sprouted Flour Company? https://healthyflour.com/ this is their website.
I haven’t tried sprouted flour, but I have friends who have used it. I’ll send you an email to discuss quantity and pricing.
Is there a home made chigger repellantrecipe?
Given that this is a book of bread recipes, and recipes that go with bread (like bread pudding), no. Also, we don’t have chiggers here, so that’s not something I can test personally.
Wow! Haven’t had to worry about chiggers since moved across state almost 3 decades ago. For chiggers you just use the same DIY repellents that are also used for fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Adding 2 to 3 drops each of lavender and citronella oils to a tablespoon of witch hazel is what generations of our family always found worked best. Some will also dilute it with water but we never did. Prevention is also the same as that for ticks — avoiding tall grasses as much as possible, long sleeves and pants, tucking sleeves inside gloves and pant legs inside socks and/or boots. However, treating the bites after the fact is different because they burrow under the skin. First shower/bath to remove any others before they get the chance to burrow, then apply something to help draw out those that have already burrowed into/under the skin. Otherwise, treat the itching and irritation same as you would mosquito and other bug bites. Hope that helps!
why in the world would you do that?
I found out in the 70’s I have food allergies + hayfever. The worst one is Yeast. I cannot eat anything containing the least amount!
Then I would advise sticking to the quick breads that do not use yeast, if you eat bread at all.
